Originally named the Framingham Choral Society, the Chorale was founded in the fall of 1937 by a small group of Framingham residents on a budget of just $62!\u00a0 Ever since, except for a brief time during World War II, the Chorale has rehearsed and performed in Framingham and nearby communities. The size of the Chorale has fluctuated from 40 to a 100 singers. Though much has changed over the past eight decades, our resolve to share music of the highest quality with each other and our communities hasn't wavered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">During its long history, the Chorale has performed a wide range of both classical and contemporary choral works. In its earliest seasons, annual productions of the<em> Messiah<\/em> were performed to sell-out audiences. Most recently, the Chorale has presented works of contemporary composers Daniel Pinkham, Morten Lauridsen, and Randall Thompson, as well as the magnificent music of Mendelssohn, Mozart, Haydn, and Brahms. This past season featured the work of women composers, including Zwilich, Hirsch, Larsen, Price, and Bonds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In February, 1988, the Chorale began an annual production of lighter musical fare \u2013 a Pops-style program \u2013 often designed around themes and with popular pieces from opera, movies, and musical theater.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><em>Our Collaborations<\/em><\/span><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In 2015, the Chorale collaborated with Monroe Crossing, one of America's finest Bluegrass bands, to present <em>The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass<\/em> by Carol Barnett. Later in the same year, the Chorale presented Rutter\u2019s rarely-heard <em>Mass <\/em><em>of the Children<\/em> in collaboration with VOICES Boston, the superb children\u2019s chorus that frequently performs with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our Shakespeare and Friends program in 2016 was a collaboration with the Handel and Haydn Society\u2019s Young Women\u2019s Chorus (YWC), directed by Alyson Greer. The Chorale also has collaborated with area symphonic groups to perform major works, including Mahler\u2019s <em>Symphony No. 2<\/em> and Brahms\u2019 <em>A German Requiem<\/em> with the New Philharmonia Orchestra, Beethoven\u2019s <em>9th Symphony<\/em> with the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra, and Mendelssohn's <em>Lobgesang<\/em> with the Boston College Symphony Orchestra.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><em>Concert Tours<\/em><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In July, 2010, the Chorale traveled on its <a style=\"color: #333333;\" href=\"http:\/\/heritagechorale.org\/wp2\/?page_id=958\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">first concert tour<\/span><\/strong><\/a> and performed in the European capitals of Vienna, Austria and Prague, Czech Republic, as well as at Melk Abbey. This was followed in the summer of 2012 by a <a href=\"https:\/\/heritagechorale.org\/wp2\/?page_id=5765\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">tour to Canada<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, where we were privileged to bring our music to Montr\u00e9al and Qu\u00e9bec City. Most recently, from June 29 to July 6, 2015, the Chorale\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"http:\/\/heritagechorale.org\/wp2\/?page_id=1004\">toured Ireland<\/a><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0with concerts in Galway, Derry, and Dublin.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><em>Anniversary Celebrations<\/em><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">2011 marked the 75th anniversary of the Heritage Chorale. We looked back over the decades to the year when\u00a0US Steel raised workers\u2019 wages to $5 a day, Margaret Mitchell won the Pulitzer Prize for <em>Gone with the Wind,\u00a0<\/em>Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan disappeared over the Pacific, the Red Sox acquired the contract of 19-year-old Ted Williams, and Dr. Edward Gilday founded the Framingham Choral Society, now known as the Heritage Chorale. Then we looked forward to\u00a0three exciting concerts and special 75th anniversary events to celebrate being 75 years young. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The Fall Concert\u00a0featured Mendelssohn\u2019s <em>Lobgesang<\/em>, in collaboration with Boston College\u2019s Symphony Orchestra. The Pops Diamond Jubilee Concert presented hit songs from the Chorale's anniversary years: 1937, 1962, 1987 and 2012. The Spring Concert presented a performance of Carl Orff\u2019s much-loved <em>Carmina Burana<\/em>, accompanied by a small professional ensemble of piano and percussion.
