He has conducted the Chorale in acclaimed performances of major choral works, including Mendelssohn\u2019s <i>Elijah<\/i>, Handel\u2019s <i>Israel in Egypt<\/i>, Beethoven's <i>Mass in C<\/i>, Orff's <i>Carmina Burana<\/i>, and the Requiems of Mozart, Brahms, Faur\u00e9 and Durufl\u00e9, as well as in Pops programs of lighter music each concert season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">He has brought unique musical experiences to the MetroWest area. As recently as March 2015, in a collaboration with the celebrated bluegrass ensemble Monroe Crossing, he led the Chorale in Carol Barnett\u2019s <em>The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass<\/em>. In November of 2015, he produced another collaborative program, this time with the internationally acclaimed VOICES Boston in the performance of a 70th Birthday Tribute to the English composer John Rutter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">John has directed the Heritage Chorale during its three international concert tours, to Europe in July 2010 (with concerts in Prague and Vienna), to Canada in July 2012 (with concerts in Montr\u00e9al and Qu\u00e9bec City), and to Ireland in July 2015 (with concerts in Galway, Derry, and Dublin)<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">BOSTON COLLEGE<br \/><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Senior Lecturer<br \/><\/span><\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Distinguished Artist-in-Residence<br \/><\/span><\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Director of the University Chorale of Boston College<br \/><\/span><\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Director of the Boston College Symphony Orchestra<\/span><br \/><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"parsys_column cq-colctrl-lt4-c1\">\n<div class=\"text parbase section\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">For decades, Boston College music programs have benefited from John's skills as educator, musician, and conductor. Since 1993, he has conducted the 160-voice University Chorale of Boston College here in Massachusetts, and on concert tours in major cities throughout the world, including Rome, Prague, Vienna, Madrid, and Dublin. In 1999, he was appointed Conductor of the Boston College Symphony Orchestra and given the title of Distinguished Artist-in-Residence at Boston College. The Boston College Symphony Orchestra has performed such major symphonic works as Beethoven's <em>Symphony #5<\/em>, Dvorak's <em>\"New World\" Symphony<\/em> and Copland's <i>Lincoln Portrait<\/i>. In November 2012, John conducted the University Chorale and the Boston College Symphony Orchestra in two standing-room-only performances of Carl Orff's <i>Carmina Burana<\/i>. The following year, he again conducted both groups as part of the celebratory concert in observance of the 150th anniversary of Boston College.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">HANDEL &amp; HAYDN SOCIETY<br \/><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><em>Associate Conductor and Chorusmaster<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">As the Associate Conductor and Chorusmaster of the world-renowned Handel &amp; Haydn Society in Boston for 24 years, John directed many of the Society\u2019s performances at New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall and Symphony Hall, including Handel's <em>Messiah<\/em> in 1997 and 2004. <br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">WELLESLEY HILLS CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH<br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><em><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Organist and Director of Music<\/span><br \/><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Beginning in 1984, John has been Organist and Director of Music at the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church. <\/span><\/p>\n<h5><em><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Organist and Educator<\/span><\/em><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">He holds degrees in organ performance from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and The Boston Conservatory, served on the faculty of The Boston Conservatory, and taught for six years at the Academy for Early Music in Bressanone, Italy.
