She has collaborated with more than 100 conductors, some of whom are recognized as GRAMMY\u00ae Award-winning, in concert performances, album recordings, rehearsals, and conducting masterclasses.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her first professional work as a Choral Pianist began with a collaboration with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bachakademie.de\/en\/foundation\/helmuth-rilling.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Helmuth Rilling<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a renowned German conductor specializing in the music of J.S. Bach, through <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.singfest.hk\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hong Kong SingFest<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in multiple choral-orchestral projects. Leona was a founding member and staff pianist of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/p\/Cantor%C3%ADa-Hong-Kong-100066629898551\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cantoria Hong Kong<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with whom she went on concert tours in the United Kingdom, Taiwan, and China. She can also be heard on the Chinese choral music album <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/juilliardstore.com\/products\/half-moon-rising-for-satb-choir-and-piano?srsltid=AfmBOoo2LXhMXMHQhtXWGHYvDuYxkchsJSw6DjVo4QNhoD53Gx5YaY65\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Half Moon Rising<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, presented by Edition Peters. Her collaborators also include musicians from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/handelandhaydn.org\/education\/hhyc\/faculty\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Handel and Haydn Society<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bso.org\/profiles\/tanglewood-festival-chorus\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tanglewood Festival Chorus<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seraphicfire.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seraphic Fire<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonchildrenschorus.org\/who-we-are\/staff\/leona-cheung\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boston Children\u2019s Chorus<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.emmanuelmusic.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emmanuel Music<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/web.mit.edu\/womensleague\/womenschorale\/accompanist_bio-LC.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MIT Women's Chorale<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She serves as staff pianist with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/necmusic.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New England Conservatory<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bostonconservatory.berklee.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boston Conservatory<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Since 2023, she has served as a choral pianist for the Massachusetts All-State Choir, performing at Boston Symphony Hall. The choir consists of more than 200 talented singers selected from schools across the state each year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leona is a passionate advocate for Art Song and has a strong interest in curating engaging and thought-provoking recital programs. In 2024, she was awarded the Graham Johnson Art Song XXI Prize, an award named after one of the most respected pianists and Art Song scholars of our time, for which she presented \"Archetypes &amp; Stereotypes,\" a recital curated and narrated by Graham Johnson.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leona also shared her expertise by teaching a collaborative piano masterclass on German Lieder and French m\u00e9lodie for the NATS Hong Kong Chapter at The Education University of Hong Kong in 2024. Her passion for song repertoire began with her participation in the Liederabend series at the New England Conservatory, which ignited a dedication to the art form that has led her to perform at prestigious international festivals, including the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oxfordsong.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oxford International Song Festival<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/leedslieder.org.uk\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leeds Lieder Festival<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/torontosummermusic.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Toronto Summer Music<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/schubert-institut.at\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Franz Schubert Institut<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.songfest.us\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SongFest<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leona believes music is a platform for sharing joy. As a fellow of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/necmusic.edu\/cppp\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NEC Community Performances and Partnerships program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, she enjoyed many outreach performances within the community. There he\u00a0 had received his B.Mus. from Michigan State University, studying with Ralph Votapek and Deborah Moriarty. In Boston, he earned his M.Mus. from New England Conservatory of Music where he studied with Patricia Zander. <\/span>\n\nCORO ALLEGRO\nDEDHAM CHORAL SOCIETY\nCOMMONWEALTH SCHOOL CHORUS AND CHORALE\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em><span style=\"color: #999999;\">A<\/span><\/em><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #999999;\">ssistant Conductor and Accompanist<\/span><\/em>\n\n<span style=\"color: #333333;\">At present, in addition to being a valued member of the Heritage Chorale family, he also serves as assistant conductor and accompanist for Coro Allegro, the Dedham Choral Society, and the Commonwealth School Chorus and Chorale.\n<\/span>\n\n\n<h5><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Concert Pianist<\/span> <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n<span style=\"color: #333333;\">Darryl's performing career often features him as a champion of leading African and African-American composers. At the Festival of African and African-American Music in St. Louis in 2000 he premiered <em>The Spring of Esentre<\/em> by Gyimah Labi, <em>Concertino Africana for Piano and Orchestra<\/em> by Paul Konye, and participated in the North American premiere of <em>Baptism of Fire \u2013 Symphony Concertante for <\/em><em>Three Pianos and Orchestra<\/em> by Gyimah Labi. In December 2002 he performed a recital of African Piano Music at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Then in April 2003, he gave the world premiere of <em>Three Ivory Magnolia Fantasies<\/em> by Gary Nash in a recital at Mississippi Valley State University. <\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #333333;\">Internationally, Darryl performed premieres of works by Paul Konye, Wallace Cheatham, Akin Euba, Gary Nash, Robert Kwami and Joshua Uziogwe in August 2003 at The International Symposium and Festival on Composition in Africa and the Diaspora at Churchill College, Cambridge, England, and in July 2005 at the New Music Indaba Festival in Grahamstown, South Africa, with soprano Dawn Padmore.
