For its 73rd season, the Heritage Chorale presents two classical concerts and our annual Pops concert.
The fall concert presents a chance for us to celebrate the 200th birthday of composer Felix Mendelssohn. The concert will include Mendelssohn’s settings of Psalm 115 (“Non, nobis, Domine”) and Psalm 42 (“Wie der Hirsch schreit”), both accompanied by full orchestra. Shorter pieces of Mendelssohn include his “Laudate Pueri” for women’s voices.
The Pops Concert showcases the variety of song and rich tradition of the theatre. Popular opera choruses (“Carmen” for example) balance the lighter musical selections from Disney’s films such as “The Little Mermaid”. From the theatre we include selections from Andrew Lloyd Webber's “Phantom of the Opera” and the delicate “The Secret Garden”.
The spring concert previews the music the Chorale will perform in Europe on our concert tour. To honor composers associated with Vienna and Prague, this concert will feature short choral pieces of Mozart and Dvorak. Also on the program will be American works. Morten Lauridsen’s cantata, “Lux Aeterna”, will be featured, as well as American folk hymns and spirituals.
